History
In 1876, William N. Sauer started a small plumbing business with a $50 gift from his mother on his 18th birthday. Years later in 1906, William Sauer met John Steitz, a young pump salesman from New York. These two men joined forces and began to specialize in large construction work involving water supply systems and heating systems.
By 1943, Sauer had become a corporation and continued to provide mechanical services in Western Pennsylvania. Sauer later expanded its business into Ohio, providing similar mechanical construction services, which continues to this day.
In 1969, Sauer followed its preferred General Construction customers to central Florida in pursuit of the numerous commercial construction opportunities.
Sauer opened an Orlando office and performed the mechanical construction on projects such as Disney’s Contemporary Hotel and Sea World’s Shamu stadium.
In the 1970’s, Sauer pursued industrial work in Northern Florida, and established an office in Jacksonville. In the late 1970’s, Sauer was awarded several aerospace contracts at Kennedy Space Center, Florida, serving as the prime general contractor on many of these projects.
Sauer continued to grow from the 1980’s through the 2000’s. Today our GC, Mechanical and Aerospace Divisions provide services on a national level.
